We Love What We Do

Located near Alaska’s picturesque Kashwitna Lake—often imbued with reflections of North America’s tallest mountain, Denali—you’ll find Alaska Grown peonies on the gently rolling hills of Kashwitna Peonies Farm. Run by owner Kathy Wood alongside her “not so silent” partner and husband Charles, also the Production Manager, the farm is the result of their desire to plan for a comfortable yet productive retirement and settle into “the good life.”

The couple moved their family to Alaska in 1993, fell in love with the state as so many do, and have never looked back. Although living and working in the Anchorage area, the Kashwitna property was purchased early on in as an investment and retreat, but always with the thought of an eventual retirement home. Fast-forward to 2012—the Wood children ready to take off on adventures of their own—Kathy and Chuck learned of Alaska’s growing peony market. The two talked seriously about using their Kashwitna property as a base of operations for Kathy’s own peony cultivation business. Discussions slowly matured into action involving extensive research, weekend trips to develop the land, involvement with the local co-op., and intense farming.

The Woods are taking a deep interest in their production methods, peony quality, customer service and business relationships. Their peonies are Alaska Grown, and each and every bud will be under the watchful eye of Kashwitna Peonies Farm founders until snipped and shipped.

Kashwitna Peonies Farm caters to brides and grooms hoping to utilize Alaska peonies to create their dream wedding. The farm also serves commercial florists needing quality stock of peonies ready to bloom. Kathy insists on providing a more personal service than the average grower which is why the Woods remain available to answer questions and help educate buyers.

Alaskan “transplants” themselves, Kathy and Charles are looking forward to seeing the growth of their farm and business, serving their customers and experiencing the joys of working off the land.
